Airlines reveal sweet fare specials to entice travelers

In an attempt to entice travelers to purchase tickets and take back to the skies, airlines are now offering sweet fare specials making costs lower and a trip sound much more inviting.

Las Vegas, Nevada (CaymanMama.com) — The recession has put a dent in traveling and the airlines are feeling the sting. In fact, several U.S. airlines have submitted dismal traffic reports for the fourth quarter of 2008.

In an attempt to entice travelers to purchase tickets and take back to the skies, airlines are now offering sweet fare specials making costs lower and a trip sound much more inviting.

A popular travel website gave a handful of examples showing current and less expensive round-trip airfares from Feb. 10-17. Below is a sampling of the bargains airlines are offering including taxes and fuel surcharges. These prices do not include baggage fees.

• Boston-Los Angeles: $179 now on American and United; originally $408 in September.

• New York area-Chicago: $218 now on American, Continental and United; originally $318 to $388 in September.

• New York-San Francisco: $238 now on American, Delta, United and Virgin America; originally $438.

• Washington, D.C.-Vail, Colo.: $160 now on American, United, Northwest and Delta; originally $560.

• Phoenix-London: $499 on British Airways; originally $869.
