Cricket World Cup to go ahead as scheduled in 2011 - ICC

New Delhi: The Chief Executive of International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed yesterday that despite of the current tension between India and Pakistan, the Cricket World Cup will be organized as per schedule. Mr. Haroon Lorgat told the newsmen that, “I am aware of the current situation, but the World Cup is still a long way away. It is too early to be concerned, but we are monitoring the situation on a regular basis.”

The four hosts of Cricket World Cup (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) who attended the meeting confirmed that the open matches will be held in Dhaka and final will be played in New Delhi with Pakistan and Sri Lanka hosting the two semi finals. The committee also discussed to keep open options for alternative venues as security measures. Bangladesh will be hosting opening ceremony on February 29, 2011.

The Chief Executive also stressed to the speeding up of the preparations for the upcoming world cup. He said, “We have noticed that the work is lagging behind and the host nations need to speed it up,” he said. “We have some catching up to do, but I am confident we will deliver a world class event.”
