Hollywood, California (CaymanMama.com) — After the alleged attack of pop singer Rihanna by boyfriend and rising R&B artist, Chris Brown, members of Rihanna’s family in her native Barbados are worried that the singer may return to her violent relationship.
In fact, many of Rihanna’s relatives felt Brown “flew so far under everyone’s radar that we just didn’t think he was that [abusive] type,” a relative tells PEOPLE Magazine.
Brown voluntarily turned himself in to the Los Angeles police department and was detained on Feb. 8 for allegedly assaulting Rihanna in the early morning hours. He later issued a half-hearted statement of apology, saying he would go to therapy, and may face charges from the district attorney.
Rihanna reportedly suffered from multiple contusions, a black eye, split lip, bite marks and bruises.
The singer, who turns 21 on Friday was blindsided by the incident. “He was always looking after her needs,” says a relative, “making sure she was happy.”
Rihanna and Brown, 19, were a “perfect match,” an MTV personality told PEOPLE.
Rihanna’s father, Ronald Fenty, feels strongly that his daughter should “move on.” A relative couldn’t agree more saying, “I don’t want her to go back to him. I don’t think anyone does.”
