After weeks of thought, the First Family has  selected the breed for the First Dog.

Syracuse, New York (CaymanMama.com) — One of the highly followed moves of President Barack Obama and the first family include the job market, the housing market and of course, which dog will be picked for the White House. After weeks of thought, the Obama’s have selected the breed for the First Dog.

First Lady Michelle Obama told People magazine that the family has decided on a Portuguese Water Dog due to the breed’s even temper, size and hypo-allergenic fur.

“Temperamentally they’re supposed to be pretty good,” Mrs. Obama said. “From the size perspective, they’re sort of middle of the road — it’s not small, but it’s not a huge dog. And the folks that we know who own them have raved about them. So that’s where we’re leaning.”

As far as what they will name the new pup, that is still up in the air.

“Oh, the names are really bad. I don’t even want to mention it, because there are names floating around and they’re bad,” Mrs. Obama giggled. “You listen and you go — like, I think, Frank was one of them. Frank! Moose was another one of them. Moose. I said, well, what if the dog isn’t a moose? Moose. I’m like, no, come on, let’s work with the names a little bit.”

Many will try to remind the Obama’s about their announcement to get a shelter or rescue dog.

“We appreciate the great enthusiasm around the dog and we will be sure to let folks know everything about the dog once the family has had the opportunity to look for and select their new pet later this spring,” an Obama White House official said.
