Washington (Dawn.com): Just days before the US plans to unveils its new Afghan policy, the US administration seem to be busy in carrying out consultations with Pakistani counterparts to ensure that all is clear and there are no surprises in the packaged deal that would back fire or create hindrance in its implementation. No security guarantee during the mega cricket event IPL moves to South Africa
New Delhi (AFP): As the dates of Indian Premier League cricket event dates clash with the general election in India, the Indian government failed to ensure adequate security during the cricket event. The IPL resultantly had to be moved out of the country to South Africa.
The IPL is due to begin on April 17 and Indian elections are due from April 16 to May 13.
Coalition deal between Netanyahu and Barak likely
Jerusalem (Dawn.com): Ehud Barak and the Prime Minister designate Benjamin Netanyahu agreed on a political partnership ending the friction between between the political parties in Israel with the US and also ending the treat to the Middle East peace deal.
United Nations Human Rights Commissioner appeals for Solecki’s release
Geneva (Dawn.com): Since February 2, John Solecki has been in the hands of his captives where is health is deteriorating. The UNHCR spokeman, Ron Redmond told the press that, “ The last we heard, John’s health was deteriorating and we are increasingly worried about his medical condition, as we mark this international day of solidarity (March 25) with missing staff members, we again appeal to those holding John to release him immediately so he and all his colleagues can continue to carry out their vital humanitarian work.’
South African peace conference postponed as Dalai Lama refused visa
Johannesburg (Dawn.com): The South African peace conference in which the Nobel Laureates were supposed to participate was postponed as the Dalai Lama was refused a visa. The officials who were sponsoring the event said, “The conveners have therefore decided in the spirit of peace to postpone the South African peace conference to ensure it is held under conducive conditions.”
