Gun men commits suicide after killing 13 in New York
New York (Dawn.com): A 42 years old man went on a shooting rampage in New York, killing 13 people and then killed himself. The gunman named Jiverly Voong. At the immigration building where the incident took place people were being tested for their citizenship. The Gunman, according to the officials was recently released from IBM in Johnson city.
France to take one Guantanamo detainee
Strasbourg (Dawn.com): President Sarkozy, the French President confirmed yesterday that his country will take in one Guantanamo Bay Detainee in order to help the US in closure of the detention facility. Confirming his decision the French President said, ‘Yes we have spoken, yes we have agreed’ to accept one detainee.’ He added, ‘We don’t combat terrorists with terrorist methods; we combat them with the methods of democracy.’
Blast in Philippines kill 2 and injure 8 people
Zamboanga (Dawn.com): In Southern Philippines, which is known to be the troubled area of the country a bomb blast took lives of 2 and left 8 people injured. No one claimed responsibility. The Basilan Island is known to be the stronghold of Abu Sayyaf militants who are suspected to be funded by Osama Bin Laden, Al-Qaeda chief.
Tamil Tigers loose more ground, 57 rebels killed
Colombo (AFP): The Sri Lanka troops move forward yesterday killing 57 rebels. The AFP News report in stated that two senior Tamil Tigers leaders were killing among 44 guerillas killed in the intense fighting that took place on Thursday. 13 others were killed in the eastern district of Ampara.
North Korea ready for satellite launch
(CNN): While President Obama warns the North Korea about the launch of their so called “experimental communication satellite” but the Korean news agency said that the Korean authorities have confirmed that “The satellite will be launched soon. “We have made it very clear to the North Koreans that their missile launch is provocative, it puts enormous strains on the Six-Party Talks and that they should stop the launch.”
