U.S. federal officials have confirmed that a plot to assassinate President Barack Obama has been thwarted and is being investigated “very seriously.”

Buffalo, New York (CaymanMama.com) — U.S. federal officials have confirmed that a plot to assassinate President Barack Obama has been thwarted and is being investigated “very seriously.”

Last week, Turkish police arrested a Syrian man in Istanbul who confessed his plan to kill the U.S. president during his visit to Turkey.

Although it is not deemed unusual for the American president to be a hot target for assassination threats - especially since President Obama is the nation’s first African-American president - U.S. officials confirmed that the alleged plotter came no where near executing his assassination plans during Obama’s first overseas trip, nor did the incident change Obama’s schedule.

A Saudi-Arabian newspaper was the first to report about the assassination plot, saying that the suspect was caught carrying an Al-Jazeera TV press credential with the name of “M.G.”, and that he and three accomplices planned to stab President Obama during the Alliance of Civilizations Summit in Istanbul on Monday.

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said, “we work closely with the host country whenever there is an arrest, which we are doing in this matter.”

The Secret Service will not provide any further information in order to avoid any possible infiltration of the media, however since the arrest, journalists covering the trip were more thoroughly searched.
