Musicians for Charity, Inc., announces the creation of a new web site – MusiciansForCharity.org
Washington, D.C.(CaymanMama.com) — Musicians for Charity, Inc., announced Wednesday the launch of a new web site – MusiciansForCharity.org – created by volunteers from the music recording industry, directors from non-profit organizations and professional musicians.
John Schneider, a veteran musician and marketing professional for a major non-profit organization, wanted to create a way to bring together musicians with charities who are seeking creative ways to raise funds.
MusiciansForCharity.org is a free site which will provide a platform for charities to spread awareness about their organization’s mission, fundraising events and the types of music needed for the event. Musicians can, in turn, get the news out about their music, upload song samples and add links to their own web sites. Schneider describes the new site as a type of “dating service” for non-profit organizations and musicians.
“With the current financial problems within the economy,” Schneider explained, “many charities and non-profit organizations throughout the country are having trouble raising funds. Simultaneously, these same charities frequently see an increase in the use of their services.” In fact, there are over 900,000 charities registered in the United States today.
While MusiciansForCharity.org has been live for a short time, two national charities have already added their names to the growing roster: Shaping America’s Health (a division of f the American Diabetes Association), and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
“Many nonprofit organizations are challenged by a rapidly changing funding environment and a steadily rising need for services from the communities they serve,” said Gary Deverman, CEO of Shaping America’s Health. “MusiciansForCharity.org is a great way to help charities survive and communities thrive.”
During these hard economic times, Americans are not able to donate as much money as they have in the past to nonprofits.
“It’s a tough situation to be in,” Schneider continued. “Many charities spend a considerable amount of time raising money with little time left over to provide critical services to the communities they serve.”
“The entertainment business, however, always seems to do fairly well despite downturns in the economy,” Schneider continued. “When the financial woes of the world weigh upon your shoulders, society often escapes into the movie theaters and concert halls to take a break from reality.”
“Some musicians make a living by playing music. But not all musicians work all the time, so the next best thing is playing for an audience.”
Schneider believes that when musicians play their music for fundraising events, they are doing a two-part service: making a contribution to the community as well as networking to create valuable contacts for future paid performances.
Schneider is currently seeking partner organizations to further develop the web site so that users will have the ability to post and edit their own pages.
