Taliban continue to infiltrate Buner despite Sufi Mohammed’s claim that they will continue withdraw

Mingora (Dawn.com): Armed Taliban continue to arrive in Buner despite the activity and assurance from Maulana Sufi Mohammed seemed to have melted down after his arrival and jirga that was held in Buner on Friday.

The Taliban though less in number and ill equipped seem to haunt the minds of the Pakistan politician and security official who are helpless in front of Taliban.

The Taliban took control over the routes that lead to Bahrain and Kalam and set up check posts.

Maulana Fazlullah, the head of Swat Taliban has agreed to attend peace jirga. The government officials conveyed new conditions to Fazullah which include withdrawal of the Taliban from Buner, ban on display of weapons, release of prisoners and general amnesty for the militants.

Buner residents want peace

Islamabad (Dawn.com): Just a 100 kilometers away from the Federal capital of Pakistan, the Taliban has found a new safe haven, Buner. The continuous arrival of Taliban despite Maulana Sufi Mohammed’s efforts of taking them back to Swat failed miserably as the Taliban have come back with two days and this time in more numbers.

The people of Buner want peace, they are threatened by the display of arms and ammunition. They rallied for peace yesterday calling for peace surrounded by the doubts that the peace deal between the militants and the government would fail pushing the region into deeper threat.
