Washington (Dawn.com): An aid for displaced people due to Swat war is being sought by the US administration. The officials have urged congress to release $497 million as emergency aid for economic assistance to Pakistan. The special envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke told the Senate Foreign Relations committee that, ‘Frankly, I don’t really trust what I hear from a situation like that until the dust of battle has settled, but one thing is clear: 900,000 refugees have been registered with the UN in that area, and we have a major, major refugee crisis,’

Washington (Dawn.com): With a leader who was previously known for his corruption and his nickname of Mr.10% once have once again been the source for creating doubts. While the officials in the US press for urgent release of emergency funds to Pakistan, 2 US senators 1 Republican and 1 Democrat casts doubts and oppose release of funds to Pakistan.
Senator Bob Borker, expressed his concern saying, “I am concerned that the Obama administration was trying to rush emergency aid without proper congressional oversight to a country where some of the leaders have been called ‘Mr 10 per cent’ because of their alleged corruption. ‘I would like to know how the money would be circulated in Pakistan, and will not end in bank accounts in Switzerland.”
Senator Menendez also insisted on knowing on how the money would be spent. He said, ‘Unless, I really hear what the strategy is, and I have not heard that so far, you may not have my support on this.’
12th May 2007 still looms Karachi - remembering the dead
Karachi (Dawn.com): Karachi yesterday mourned the deaths of the people martyred on May 12, 2007. The day when the deposed chief justice arrived at Karachi Airport. The then Pakistani President in alliance with MQM staged show of strength and political activists went on the killing rampage killing over 80 people in a matter of few hours.
No political party claims responsibility and no one blames the party responsible for the terrorists activities in the city for the fear of their live and security of their families.
Each political party wants to shine their political armor of the issue of the people who lost their lives and hence forced the Sindh government to declare a public holiday to remember the incident that happened two years back knowing for a fact the one day closure of Karachi means loss of billions to the country and Pakistan is in a fragile economic condition to withstand any such loss.
Army intensifies operation - commandos dropped in Maulana Fazlullah’s den
Mingora (Dawn.com): Resident in Swat reports that dozens of helicopters were seen hovering the mountains around the Taliban’s headquarters in Peochar. According to the Dawn news 13 helicopters have dropped commandos on the mountains. The army operation also intensified in the other parts in the valley where 1200 troops backed by tanks and artillery approached tumang, Darr in Upper Dir.
Pakistani government earning billion while doing business with its own people
Islamabad (Dawn.com): The Pakistan Supreme Court yesterday after studying the summery on Petrol and Petroleum products submitted by Justice (Retd) Bhagwandas observed that the Pakistani government has till now earned billion in terms of levy of development duty and sales tax on petrol and in the larger interest of the people of the country asked the government to provide up to 20% relaxation to the people. The supreme court gave the government one day to decide on the matter, in absence of any initiative from the Pakistani government, the Supreme Court will issue direct orders.
The Supreme courts three member bench ruled that, ‘It is open to the Supreme Court to make appropriate directions for the relief in prices of petroleum products as well as natural gas, CNG (compressed natural gas) and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) as deemed just, fair and proper.’
