Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — The attorney for Roxana Saberi has announced that the imprisoned American journalist accused of spying on Iran has left the country after being released from confinement.
Saberi’s lawyer, Abdolsamad Khorramshahi, says the Iranian-American citizen departed Iran en route to Europe early Friday morning, but he did identify which country she was going to. Khorramshahi said Saberi departed at approximately 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. local time (2230-2330 GMT).
On Thursday, Saberi’s family said they were planning to leave Iran soon.
Saberi, 32, was convicted of spying following a quick, closed-door trial and was sentenced to eight years in an Iranian prison.
Saberi served four months in prison, and was freed Monday. Saberi said she was looking forward to being reunited with her parents after an appeals court lowered her sentence to a two-year suspended sentence.
