Atlanta, Georgia (CaymanMama.com) - During a U.S. Naval Acadamy midshipmen graduation ceremony, President Barack Obama made a promise that, as their commander in chief, he will only put them “into harm’s way when it is absolutely necessary.”

Upon Obama’s his first address to military graduates, the president also vowed to invest in the people who defend America’s freedom, not only in the weaponry they would take with them into war against 21st century security threates.

“I will only send you into harm’s way when it is absolutely necessary, and with the strategy, the well-defined goals, the equipment and the support that you need to get the job done,” Obama told more than 1,000 graduates during a ceremony at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Obama said he has officially put a stop to reductions in the Navy, is strengthening the Marine Corps and investing in combat ships, submarines and fighter aircraft. He said they will need to do their jobs. Obama promised better salaries, improved child care and hightened support and other benefits.

“In short, we will maintain America’s military dominance and keep you the finest fighting force the world has ever seen,” Obama said, while over 30,000 spectators watched from the stands.
