Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) –Most dieters and exercise enthusiasts underestimate the power of protein as part of a dietary staple. Since protein helps the body replaced damaged cells and creates new ones, dietary protein is an essential element for good health.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, expecting mothers, children and teens should be especially careful to consume enough protein.

Lean meats are a great source of protein. However, due to its high cholesterol properties, meats should not be relied on as a sole protein source, the agency states. Fish, poultry, eggs, nuts, whole grains, soybeans, peas and dairy products are also acceptable protein sources.

According to HealthDay, “Most adults need between two and three servings of protein a day, but it can vary based on your health needs and age. One serving of protein is about two or three ounces (picture a deck of playing cards to estimate size) of cooked meat, chicken or fish.”

One-half cup of dried beans (cooked), a whole egg or egg whites, one ounce of cheese or approximately two tablespoons of peanut butter will also meet a serving of protein, the agency states.
