Denver, Colorado (CaymanMama.com) – In a letter to senators Wednesday, President Barack Obama repeated and confirmed his support for a new universal health insurance plan to compete against private health insurers.
Obama says if Congress ends up making it mandatory for individuals to buy health insurance, those who cannot afford it and small businesses should be exempted.
According to the Associated Press, “He says he wants to cut an additional $200 billion to $300 billion from Medicare and Medicaid over 10 years — on top of more than $300 billion in cuts already proposed.”
Obama outlined other matters for health legislation in the letter, but did not address the issue of taxing health care benefits, which he strongly opposed during his presidential campaign.
Congress is now considering the plan.
