Houston, Texas (CaymanMama.com) –Kill Bill and Kung Fu action star David Carradine, 72, was found dead in his hotel room in Tailand on Thursday of an apparent suicide. He was in the Thai capitol city of Bangkok working on his latest film, Stretch, at the time of his death.
A news report said he was found hanged in his hotel room by a maid. According to his manager, Carradine’s death is “shocking” because “He was full of life, always wanting to work… a great person.”
The martial arts star became a hit in the 70s with the popular TV series “Kung Fu” as well as a wide-ranging career in the movies.
A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, Michael Turner, said Thai authorities reported to the embassy that Carradine passed away either late Wednesday or early Thursday, but did not give any more details out of consideration for the actor’s family.
According to the Associated Press, “The [Web site of the Thai newspaper The Nation] said Carradine could not be contacted after he failed to appear for a meal with the rest of the film crew on Wednesday, and that his body was found by a hotel maid at 10 a.m. Thursday morning. The name of the movie was not immediately available.”
During a preliminary police investigation, it was confirmed that the star had hung himself using a cord which ties the room’s curtains. The police report said Carradine had been dead at least 12 hours with no sign of assault.
