Houston, Texas (CaymanMama.com) –Weather nuts, pay attention to changing weather conditions — a new El Nino could be on the rise.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), sea-surface temperatures have grown increasingly warmer in the tropical Pacific Ocean, suggestive of potential development of the El Nino climate phenomenon during the summer months.
According to the Associated Press, “El Nino conditions are associated with increased rainfall across the east-central and eastern Pacific and with drier than normal conditions over northern Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines. A summer El Nino can lead to wetter than normal conditions in the intermountain regions of the United States and over central Chile.”
During an El Nino year, the trend is usually an increase in Eastern Pacific hurricanes and less Atlantic hurricanes.
In recent months, weather conditions have remained neutral — between the warmer than average El Nino and the cooler than average La Nina weather conditions.
Water below the sea surface has been unseasonably warmer, NOAA said, and warm conditions both on the sea-surface and below the surface typically come before the development of an El Nino, altering wind patterns and having an effect on climate across the globe.
