Columbus, Ohio (CaymanMama.com) — House Republicans are proposing a new legislation that will allow for nearly 100 new nuclear power plants to be constructed over the next twenty years, claiming this bill is a better alternative than one backed by House Democrats.

According to the Associated Press, “The legislation unveiled by the GOP Wednesday would increase production of oil and gas offshore, fast-track refinery construction and establish a trust fund using oil and gas royalties to invest in renewable energy.”

In contrast to the Democratic bill, which is currently advocated by the White House, the Republican’s bill would not outline mandatory targets for lowering greenhouse gas emissions or for the production of green energy from renewable sources.

Republican leaders said they favor incentives to transition to cleaner energy sources, as opposed to mandates which they say disrupt the economy.
