Obama asks physicians to support proposed health care plans

Denver, Colorado (CaymanMama.com) — Continuing his quest for universal health care coverage for all Americans, President Barack Obama will encourage doctors to support his plan for wider insurance coverage and specified federal spending cuts during a gathering in Chicago Monday.

Obama is scheduled to speak at the American Medical Association’s annual meeting in his hometown with a goal of relaying the message that a health care revamp cannot wait, and that lowering costs is the most important thing to be done to ensure America’s long-term fiscal health, a senior administration official said.

The country’s physicians, like many other groups, are divided over Obama’s health care proposals to transform the health care delivery system. The White House expects profound spending to cover the nearly 50 million Americans who are without health insurance and has worked to outline the source of the funds.

According to the Associated Press, “For instance, Obama wants to cut federal payments to hospitals by about $200 billion and cut $313 billion from Medicare and Medicaid over 10 years. He also is proposing a $635 billion “down payment” in tax increases and spending cuts in the health care system.”

Obama plans to say the U.S. shells out too much on health care and for too little in return. He will say that the health industry is severely hurting American businesses and families, and is causing millions of Americans to lose their health coverage, the administration official said.
