St. Paul, Minnesota (CaymanMama.com) –  The animal rights activists at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are looking for President Barack Obama to take a more humane approach the next time he’s bothered by a fly.

During a CNBS interview with Obama at the White House Tuesday, a pesky fly interrupted the political conversation with correspondent John Harwood.

“Get out of here,” Obama told the fly. He then waited for the fly to land, lifted his hand up and smacked it to its death.

“Now, where were we?” Obama asked Harwood, then adding: “That was pretty impressive, wasn’t it? I got the sucker.”

PETA sent President Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a gadget that lets users trap a house fly and then release it outdoors.

“We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals,” PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said. “We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals.”

Friedrich added that the group was happy with  Obama’s Senate voting record on behalf of animal rights and made note that he has spoken out against animal abuses.

Nevertheless, “swatting a fly on TV indicates he’s not perfect,” Friedrich said, “and we’re happy to say that we wish he hadn’t.”
