Houston, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — Follow surgery to repair her fractured right elbow, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has to put the breaks on a planned visit to the Mediterranean countries of Greece and Italy this week.

While in Trieste, Italy, Clinton was scheduled to attend a gathering with her Group of Eight counterparts on Iran, the Middle East peace process and the War in Afghanistan, as well as a meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Corfu, Greece. There, Clinton planned to discuss the tensions between Russia and Georgia.

Deputy Secretary of States James Steinberg confirmed he would go in Clinton’s place, representing the U.S. for the Greece gathering; Undersecretary of State William Burns will sit in for the meetings in Italy.

Clinton fell in the State Department garage last week and underwent surgery on Friday. Spokesman Ian Kelly said Clinton herself canceled her trips, calling the Greek and Italian foreign ministers to express her regret for her absence.
