UK fully acknowledges sacrifices made by Pakistan in US led war on Terror

Multan (Dawn.com): The British foreign secretary, David Miliband during a joint press conference held with the Pakistan Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, told the media that UK and the EU recognize the efforts made by the Pakistani government in the fight against terrorism.

He said, answering a question put forward by the press, that Pakistan will have to explore its own resources and tap the potential within the country to over economic problems.

France and Pakistan to increase cooperation

Paris (Dawn.com): France would help Pakistan and not let fall into the hands of terrorists, said the French President in an interview. He also said that he might visit Pakistan by the end of 2009. ‘Pakistan is a nuclear power and we cannot allow it to fall into terrorist hands,’ he said in the interview.

‘France supports the Pakistani authorities,’ Mr. Sakozi added. ‘We have launched an in-depth collaboration. It is in our interest that Pakistan succeeds in its struggle against the Taliban.’

Maulana Fazullah Injured - Pakistan Army

Islamabad (Dawn.com): The Pakistan Military, yesterday, confirmed that the some important Taliban commandars including Shah Dauran and Abu Jandal have been killed while Maulana Fazullah , the Taliban chief, has been seriously injured.

The ISPR report added that apart from few many important Taliban commanders are still in the valley.

Supreme Court’s order to suspend Carbon Tax levy might put Government into problems with IMF

Karachi (Dawn.com): With the Supreme Courts order to hold back the levy of carbon tax it is feared that the payback tranche of the IMF by Pakistan would get delayed. The Carbon tax levy which was levied under pressure of the IMF was widely criticized by the public and private sectors fearing that new tax levy would inflame more inflation. The Dawn news report in this regards state, It was feared that the tax would spark a fresh wave of inflation and particularly hit food prices which had witnessed an average 22 per cent inflation during 2008-9.

Karachi stocks down by 73 points

Karachi (Dawn.com): The psychological factor on the Supreme Courts hold on the levy of Carbon Tax created a panic situation with shares prices falling across the board. The stock lost their previous position by 73.26 points bring the KSE-100 index to 7,476.11 points.

According to the analysts the market would be return to brisk trading in a days time.
