Islamabad (Dawn.com): In his first ever contact with the chief of Pakistan Muslim League after the issue of restoration of judiciary, the President of Pakistan called the Nawaz Sharif to thank him for the support the PML-N party chief had extended. The Pakistan Muslim League (N) office bearers are, though not optimistic about the meeting between the two leaders in near future, Nawaz Sharif has told the President that his door are open and his will to meet the President any time.

Karachi target killings saga continue - three more killed

Karachi (Dawn.com): With 3 more people killed in Karachi yesterday, the total number of people in target killings in Karachi exceeds 400. The police simple seems to be helpless and remains without a clue about the people involved in this act. It seems that police has got its share to stay out of the killings and let the political activists rule the unruly Karachi.

The local administration, the chief minister of Sindh and the Interior mInister, Rehman Malik met in the Chief Minister house yesterday with the other big wigs of police and and city administration to discuss this situation. The police, rangers and the Elite force got their power enhanced and were ordered to handle the killers without any discrimination.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan has show his concern over the grave, unlawful situation of the city of Karachi.

Reduction in Petroleum Prices in sight

Lahore (Dawn.com): Government has planned to adjust the margins of oil marketing companies to reduce its impact on the final consumers. The oil marketing companies have registered huge profits due to the flexibility in the governments attitude.

The advisor to the PM on Petroleum told Lahore Chamber of Commerce in his speech yesterday that the government is set to reduce the margin and also open up 90 petrol pumps through out the country to sell ethanol blended petrol which on one hand is cheaper and on the other is more environmental friendly.

It is hope that the prices of petrol will decline starting August 1, 2009.

Baitullah being helped by administration to gain control in Tank - accuses rival Taliban group

Dera Ismail Khan (Dawn.com): The Tehrik-i-Taliban chief, Baitullah Mehsud is once again been given an opportunity to gain strong footing in Tank and the local government is helping him to do so. The ‘Good Taliban’ commander “Turkistan Bhittani’ who had been provided cover by the local government has been ordered out due to the sudden change in the governments policy.

Bhittani told the news reporters that, ‘The administration is helping the Baitullah group to … hold public meetings in the Mulazai area.’

Profit taking forces the Karachi Stock Exchange to close lower

Karachi (Business Recorder): The KSE-100 index went down by 52.99 points as the investors resorted to early profit taking. The cautious stance on the side of the investors and jobbers slowed the momentum of the Stock Exchange. The KSE-100 index stood at 7,734.96 points at the days end.
