UN Envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan trip to India rescheduled

Washington (Dawn.com): People in India will not be will to talk about Pakistan after the row as India’s hyper situation after the Sharm-el-Sheikh statement issued by both the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan. The US envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan has cancelled his India trip. The state department’s spokesman told the journalists that, ‘I think the ambassador (Holbrooke) is not going to stop in India on this trip. There was a mismatch in terms of scheduling. So, he will do that on a future trip to the region.’

The official also added that, ‘There’s a hornets’ nest in India now because of opposition attacks on two parts of the India-Pakistan joint statement just agreed in Sharm-el-Sheikh.’

Musharraf’s actions ‘legality’ discussed by lawyers in London

London (Dawn.com): Bindmans, LLP, UK’s top human rights law firm has received a letter from the top lawyers requesting advices on the legality of Musharraf’s actions during his term of rule in Pakistan. It is believed that the firm had already replied to the panel of lawyers.

A Pakistan born British citizen plans to go to court against Musharraf for handing him over to the US authorities. He was visiting Pakistan when Musharraf had him kidnapped and without following legal process handed him over to the US authorities. He served for 4 years in Guantanamo Bay prison.

According to the lawyers, Musharraf cannot be tried in UK for his action done in Pakistan save for the kidnapping of Mr. Beg who was a UK citizen.

Pakistan Muslim League - N member and member of the provincial assembly resigns - found involved in Credit Card scam

Lahore (Dawn.com): PML-N PMA, Shumaila Rana who impersonated her self for being Zaira Malik while making a purchase at the jewelry store resigned from her position of Member of Provincial Assembly and from the party’s member as she could not prove herself innocent.

Her problem in the credit card scam multiplied when the other lady approached the court complaining about Shumaila Rana’s stating that the MPA had forcibly occupied her home and was also not paying the rent.

Pakistan and France eyes beginning of era of renewed partnership

Lahore (Dawn.com): While visiting and speaking to the members of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the France foreign trade minister, Anne-Marie Idrac who is heading a 21 member French delegation told the businessmen in Lahore that France is interested and in looking to to renew its partnership with Pakistan.

She said, that the French President will be Pakistan by the year’s end to sign agreement relating to food, power, energy. She also confirmed that French Businessmen are also interested in investing in the these sectors.

Karachi Stock Exchange down by 80.64 points

Karachi (Business Recorder): The Karachi Stock Exchange results posted a negative figure of 80.46 points. The dip in the trading activities is said to owed to the late announcement of monetary policy. The market faced selling pressure in the second half of the day as the day began with a positive note.

The trading ended with 7,783.40 points on board.
