TNSM Chief, Maulana Sufi Muhammad arrested along with his 2 sons in Peshawar

Peshawar (Dawn.com): The Minister of Information for the NWFP government confirmed yesterday the chief of the banned group of Tehrik Nifaz-i-Shariat-i-Mohammadi, (TNSM) as being arrested in Peshawar along with his 2 sons. The government also said that charges are being framed against him. He said, ‘The government has arrested Maulana Sufi Muhammad under 16 MPO and he will be tried under the law of the land for his highly objectionable activities.’ ‘Sufi Muhammad is the main culprit. He is responsible for militancy and violence in Malakand and he will be brought to justice,’ he added while answering the questions of the newsmen.

Security capture ammunition consignment, vehicles and boys prepared for suicide attacks

Mingora (Dawn.com): Huge consignment of 35,000 Kgs explosives, hundreds of guns, 100 pistols and electronic equipments including 50 computers were seized by the security forces. They also captured boys who had been prepared by the insurgents to carry out suicide bombing activities. All the items and the boys were put on display for the media.

Prime Minister meets Chief Minister of Punjab - local bodies setup discussed

Lahore (Dawn.com): The Chief Minister of Punjab and the Prime Minister of Pakistan met yesterday in Lahore to discuss the modalities of setting up the local bodies system. The Pakistan’s Prime Minister confirmed that, ‘Under the Constitution it is a provincial subject and provinces are empowered to take decisions about its status.’

The Pakistani government is all set to revamp the local bodies setup that up till now has run on the lines set up by the former President Musharraf.

Pakistan’s competitive dropped from 84 (2006) to 101 (2009)

Islamabad (Dawn.com): The Pakistan competitiveness report published by the government of Pakistan was launched in wWashington and New York while no such event was held in Pakistan neither the Pakistan business community was invited for information sharing.

The report is the joint initiative of the USAID (United States Agency for International Development and the Ministry of Finance, Pakistan. The cost of report paid to the person developing and making the report is about Rs. 6 million and Rs.2.0 billion was paid as the printing cost of the report.

Hina Rabbani Khar, the State Minister for Finance expresses ignorance over the report and stated that Pakistan’s ranking had fell across the board.

Karachi Stocks close positive after volatile session

Karachi (Business Recorder): The stock at the Karachi Stock Exchange closed on the last trading day of the week with a positive note after a volatile session. The KSE-100 index showed 7,780.40 points on board after adding 18.39 points
