Detroit, Michigan (CaymanMama.com) — Remaining no stranger to controversy, Sen. John McCain formally announced his opposition of the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to United States Supreme Court.
McCain claims Sotomayor tried “to walk back from her long public record of judicial activism during her confirmation hearing.”
The outspoken Arizona senator’s statements will not impede the fast pace of the confirmation scheduled for later this week to bring in the Sotomayor,55, the former federal appeals court judge.
According to CNN.com, “Legal sources say a White House swearing-in ceremony for the nominee could happen as early as Friday, depending on when the Senate casts a final vote before its August recess.”
McCain has said that Sotomayor’s past and colorful life is inspiring, but that is not enough to make her the best candidate for a position on the U.S. Supreme Court.
