Chicago, Illinois (CaymanMama.com) — Backing away from a controversial plan to purchase additional civilian-style jets than it requested, the House of Representatives is now trying to let the harsh criticism die down from appearing to be wasteful.
According to CNN.com, “A statement released by Rep. John Murtha, D-Pennsylvania, appeared to end the controversy over the addition of four planes in the House military appropriations bill to the Pentagon’s original request of four to upgrade its aging fleet of aircraft used to transport Washington officials, including members of Congress.”
The Pentagon previously submitted an order for a C-37 Gulfstream jet as well as three C-40 military types of the Boeing 737. The House then submitted an order for two C-37s and two C-40s totaling a price tag of a whopping $270 million.
Murtha’s statement came to bat for the House’s plan, but added, “If the Department of Defense does not want these aircraft, they will be eliminated from the bill.”
Nixing the plan will not help to save funds since the overall funding set forth by the bill remains unchanged. Eliminating the plan will simply mean that the funds used for the jets will be now used for different purposes.
