Islamabad (Dawn.com): Pakistani Taliban commander, Khurshid who is known as the close aide to Maulana Fazalullah along with his 60 militants voluntarily surrendered. 2 out 60 surrendering militants are Maulana Fazalullah’s first cousins. The Pakistan security forces also gained more ground in an attack where two terrorists were killed and 8 were arrested.
Prime Minister of Pakistan get first taste of democratic parliament
Islamabad (Dawn.com): The opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar along with his party members staged a token walkout as he was not allowed to speak after the Prime Minister speech to the National Assembly. The Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani, faces anger from the opposition for maintaining his stance on the issue of Musharraf’s trial. Prime Minister had said earlier in his speech that the government would move for Musharraf’s trail only if all the 342 members of parliament vote in favor of the trail.
Hand grenade attack injured 4 policemen in Rawalpindi
Rawalpindi (Dawn.com): 4 police men were injured in a hand grenade attack yesterday in Rawalpindi. According to the intelligence reports a hand grenade was thrown at a private car in which 4 policemen were on petrol. According to the official report no one killed in the attack though 8 people were injured.
India’s unwillingness to visit Islamabad delaying dialogue between the two countries
Islamabad (Dawn.com): India has shown reluctance to visit Pakistan for dialogue as was agreed between the Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and the Indian PM during their meeting in Sharm-el Sheikh. Leaders of both the countries had meet and decided to enter restart the dialog beginning with Foreign Secretary level talks.
It is learned that Pakistan had proposed first week of September for the meeting but there has been little progress in this regards.
Stock market volatile - gains 20.75 points
Karachi (Business Recorder): The stocks at the Karachi gained 20.75 after a volatile trading session. The positivity ended with the early profit taking by the investors due to which the intra day high gains drained. The market settled with 7,973.45 points on board after touching a peak of 8,.13.23 by mid day.
