Federal cabinet approves National education policy - Annual budgetary funds raised to 7%

Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet, yesterday, approved the New National Education policy. The committee decided to increase the budgetary Education funds from 2% to 7% and aimed at increase the literacy rate to 85% by the year 2015. The new policy envisages that 11 and 12 grade education will be the part of school education. All primary schools will be upgraded to middle level.

Pakistan - Strategically important country and key alley of US faces daunting challenges - Blake

Washington: Speaking to a gathering at John Hopkins University, the US assistant secretary of State Robert O. Blake said, ‘Pakistan, it is difficult to imagine a country of such strategic importance — and a key ally of the United States — that faces a more daunting set of problems.’ He said, ‘Pakistan seeks to consolidate its transition to democracy while making important progress against the Taliban in the North-West Frontier Province and tribal areas.’

‘Equally important but less well known is that Pakistan’s economy has been battered by major financial crises, and most recently and notably, a severe electricity shortage that impacts’ businesses and people in equal measure.’

Stressing on the need of table civilian government Blake added, ‘A stable, constitutional, civilian-led government that provides for the needs of its people by delivering justice, education, health care, and economic opportunities will be instrumental in achieving these goals.’

Hundreds of stolen NATO devices recovered from Balochistan

Quetta: Police in Balochistan recovered hundreds of wireless sets, computers and X-rays machines belonging to Nato from Quetta Spini area. The Quetta - Chaman route through which Nato supplies pass to reach Afghanistan has been open to such pilferage of Nato supplies. The police in another raid in the Quetta city recovered hand made bombs and explosives and ammunition from the Balochistan University Hostel.

Pakistan Foreign Minister hopeful of better relations with India

Islamabad: Answering questions of news reporters Shah Mahmood Qureshi said he looked forward to meet his Indian counterpart in the sidelines of UN General assembly session this month. He said that he sincerely wanted Pakistan and India relations to move forward through meaningful dialog. Reply to a question about a possible nuclear test by India the Pakistan foreign minister said, ‘We … will analyse the situation and follow a policy that suits our interests’. ‘Pakistan,’ he said, ‘is capable of looking after its interests.’

Surge of 263 points witnessed at the Karachi Stock Exchange

Karachi: The KSE-100 index surged by 263 points yesterday after 2 days of dull trading. The Index stood at 9,084.98 points after touching the days highest of 9,121.26 points. Foreign Investors remained to be the main players of the day.
