President Obama, First Lady host event in Chicago to better city’s 2016 Olympics chances

Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — President Obama announced Wednesday that his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, and the United States are ready for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

“I may live in Washington these days,” Obama said at a gathering at the White House, where he and the first lady hosted an Olympic event. “But I’ve called Chicago home for nearly 25 years.

“It’s a city of broad shoulders, big hearts, and bold dreams. A city of legendary sports figures, legendary sports venues, and legendary sports fans.”

“We want these Games!” Obama declared, and the crowd roared with applause.

Chicago is currently int he running with some of the world’s biggest, most beautiful cities such as Madrid, Spain; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Tokyo, Japan, for the chance to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee is scheduled to meet next month in Copenhagen, Denmark to vote on which city will host the games. First Lady Michelle Obama was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, and said she would be in Copenhagen for the vote.

“I can’t think of a better city to host the 2016 games than my hometown,” she said Wednesday.
