Bethesda, Maryland (CaymanMama.com) — While speaking at a U.N. summit on climate change on Tuesday, United States President Barack Obama warned that the international economic crisis could severely impede the abilities of countries to take the needed changes to tackle climate change.

“We seek sweeping but necessary change in the midst of a global recession, where every nation’s most immediate priority is reviving their economy and putting their people back to work,” Obama said.

“And so all of us will face doubts and difficulties in our own capitals as we try to reach a lasting solution to the climate challenge.”

Obama admitted that the U.S. has failed to acknowledge the enormity of the climate change concerns in the past.

However, he made a pledge that his administration would keep its promise to develop clean energy sources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions which are the catalyst for global warming.
