Kansas City, Missouri (CaymanMama.com) — Fireworks are usually a pleasant scene, full of lights and loud thunders. However, an explosion at a Brazilian fireworks factory on Thursday left three people dead and dozens more injured.
The fireworks factory near Brazil’s largest city ignited at 12:30 p.m. (11:30 a.m. ET) near a residential area in the industrial hub of Santo Andre, on the outskirts of Sao Paulo.
Sgt. Cordiero of the Santo Andre fire department told the media that approximately 40 firefighters are on the scene working to remove victims from the rubble, and believe there more more buried beneath the wreckage.
According to CNN.com, “The workers are sifting through debris with shovels and at least two pieces of large earth-moving equipment, television pictures from the scene showed.”
Cordiero added that sniffer dogs are working to find more victims. The explosion appears to have taken down a large chunk of the building, sending debris flowing into surrounding streets.
