Green Life: Ways to pitch those pesky packing peanuts!

Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — You see them laying all over the ground and battle to get them out of your home when you get a package in the mail. Yes, those obnoxious foam packing peanuts are everywhere — and full of static!
Instead of throwing them away and adding to the mountains of trash that will never decompose, try to reuse them or recycle them around the house. Here is how:
1. Take those foam packing peanuts back to mailing services such as Mailboxes, Etc. which will accept peanut donations, as will most other establishments and businesses that do a lot of shipping. Or, put up a post on Craigs List or the Freecycle Network; someone who is moving soon will surely have a use for them!
2. Store foam peanuts in an old pair of pantyhose for use at a later time when you wish to ship something by mail. When you are ready to use them, simply cut a hole in the toe and tie it off with a twist-tie for easy dispensing.
3. Put those peanuts in a plastic bag with a seal and put on top of the ice in your ice chest. This method will slow the ice from melting and will keep your drinks colder.
4. Substitute non-biodegradable peanuts for rocks in the base of potted plants. This will not only help with proper drainage, but will also lighten the pot and make it easier to pick up and transport.
5. Use those soft peanuts to stuff a cushion or new bed for your cat or dog.
