Crying baby with colic

Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — New mothers have a lot on their plate and when the baby starts to cry, it generally means the mother must stop what they are doing to nurse, change a diaper, or even sing a lullaby to get their baby to sleep.

However, sometimes a crying baby is more than just hungry or tired. In some cases, the fussy baby is suffering from colic, a condition that result in which an otherwise healthy baby cries or screams repeatedly, and for extended periods without any apparent reason.

Although colic is perfectly normal and nothing to panic about, mothers can rest assured that the condition will go away on its own. There are a few things that can be done to help soothe a cranky baby:

* Hold the baby softly while gently rocking in a rocking chair
* Softly sing while holding the infant and walking around the house
* Lay the infant across your lap, belly facing down, and tenderly rub the baby’s back.
* Place the baby in a swing or vibrating seat. The repetitive movement helps calm colicky babies.
* Strap the baby into an infant car seat and take a leisurely drive. Try putting on soft music in the car to help soothe.
* Run the vacuum or use a white noise machine to help distract the baby

Since no one method works better than the others for every baby, try a variety of the solutions listed above until you find one that seems to ease your infant’s crying.
