San Francisco, California (CaymanMama.com) — Jeffry Picower, one of imprisoned financial manager Bernard Madoff’s larges beneficiaries, suffered a heart attack and drowned in the pool of his oceanside mansion on Sunday.

He was found by his wife, Barbara, who pulled him from the bottom of the pool with help from a housekeeper. He was pronounced dead shortly after at a nearby hospital.

Dr. Michael Bell, chief medical examiner for Palm Beach County, conducted an autopsy on Monday and found Picower suffered a heart attack and drowned. The unfortunate death was ruled accidental having been brought on by heart disease.

“Obviously, we won’t have results for a couple of weeks but we don’t anticipate them showing anything,” Bell said. “If they do and it shows something unusual, we will amend the death certificate to reflect that.”

Police now say the case is closed after having investigated the death prior to obtaining the autopsy results.

Family attorney William D. Zabel said Picower suffered from Parkinson’s disease and other heart-related matters.

Picower, 67, is said to have pocketed over $7 billion off the Madoff investment schemes.
