Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (CaymanMama.com) — Microsoft Corp. gave the unfortunate layoff news to some 5,000 workers in January and now, it will have to disappoint 800 more across the globe.
Lou Gellos, a Microsoft spokesman, announced Wednesday the layoffs will affect workers in offices worldwide, though he would not indicate what specific product groups or job types would be affected.
Gellos added that the technology giant had already released nearly all of the 5,000 workers, in what was the company’s first-ever, far-reaching layoffs.
The multinational computer technology corporation announced in January it would continue to hire in critical departments such as Web search.
According to Yahoo! Technology, “The software maker, based in Redmond, Wash., employed about 94,000 people as of the end of December 2008. At the end of September, about 91,000 people worked for Microsoft, indicating the company has added 2,000 jobs this year.”
