San Antonio, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — Astronomers and skywatchers are gearing up for one of the best yearly meteor showers on Tuesday.

The Leonid meteor shower sky show will debut in the pre-dawn hours on November 16th and some are saying it could be quite a show.

Although the best show will be over Asia, North American skywatchers can expect a superior performance of the Leonid meteor shower, if the weather holds up.

Observers are encouraged to look to the skies in the early morning hours – between 1 a.m. and sunrise – no matter where they reside.

The Leonids is known for its incredible annual show, if the sky is clear and the moonlight is not too bright. Those who are lucky enough to be in the Northern Hemisphere with dark skies, far from from urban and suburban lighting should see quite the spectacle.

“We’re predicting 20 to 30 meteors per hour over the Americas, and as many as 200 to 300 per hour over Asia,” said Bill Cooke of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office.

“We can predict when Earth will cross a debris stream with pretty good accuracy,” Cooke continued. “The intensity of the display is less certain, though, because we don’t know how much debris is in each stream.”
