Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — Officials are working overtime to ensure the safety of the public and the workers stationed at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Londonderry Township, Pennsylvania on Monday after a cut pipe stirred up radioactive dust.

Plant spokesman Ralph DeSantis said reported that the general public did not face any danger after a dozen plant workers were exposed to the radiation on Saturday.

According to the Associated Press, “The central Pennsylvania plant has two reactors. One suffered a partial meltdown in 1979 and is mothballed. The other is still in use, but has been shut down since last month so steam generators could be replaced.”

DeSantis says the radioactive dust originated from the reactor cooling system pipes the workers were working to cut.

He added that a radiation monitor “temporarily went up” but only minimally, but a survey conducted thereafter indicated no outside contamination.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the radiation dust leak isn’t disastrous.
