Bethesda, Maryland (CaymanMama.com) — Google has acquired a promising, 3-year old start up company in its ongoing efforts to boost its online advertising sales.
Taking on Teracent Corp. will offer the Internet search giant with a bigger toolbox to customize their display advertising.
Selling more display advertising is a high priority for Google, which makes most of its money from short text messages posted alongside search results and other Web content.
Google furthered its reach into display advertising in 2009 after finalizing its $3.2 billion purchase of the online ad service DoubleClick. That acquisition posed a huge threat on Yahoo Inc., which is the Web’s largest display ad seller.
According to the AP, “Teracent’s technology automatically tweaks the look of an ad so the images are more likely to grab the targeted audience. The changes are based on factors such as a Web page’s content, the time of day and the user’s location.”
The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed during the announcement on Monday.
