Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — In spite of the heavy controversy surrounding the nomination of U.S. President Barack Obama for the Nobel Peace Prize in October, the nation’s new president was in Oslo, Norway on Thursday to accept the esteemed award.
Ever the face of grace under pressure, President Obama is now among some of the world’s greatest peacemakers, and in his compelling speech, he talked of offering an unconventional defense of war.
“I receive this honor with deep gratitude and great humility. It is an award that speaks to our highest aspirations — that for all the cruelty and hardship of our world, we are not mere prisoners of fate. Our actions matter, and can bend history in the direction of justice.
“And yet I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the considerable controversy that your generous decision has generated. In part, this is because I am at the beginning, and not the end, of my labors on the world stage.”
Obama will head to Europe next week to speak at the international conference. The main subject on the agenda includes climate change.
The Nobel committee cites Obama’s eligibility for the award in his fresh, new approach toward the world, regarding nuclear disarmament, climate change and diplomacy.
