Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — After 11 years of coming into families’ living rooms on ABC’s “Good Morning America”, Diane Sawyer bit an emotional farewell Friday, holding back tears during a nostalgic walk down memory lane with two hours of video clips, celebrity goodbyes and hugs from her team.
One of Sawyer’s most bittersweet moments was when she recalled doing the biggest story of her lifetime on GMA: meeting the children born after their fathers were killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The ABC morning news show devoted most of the broadcast to Sawyer, who will now move on to replace retiring former partner, Charles Gibson, as “World News” anchor.
Sawyer will be replaced by ABC’s chief Washington correspondent, George Stephanopoulos, on Monday.
“My heart is smiling, and the privilege of sharing my mornings with all of you has been more than I can say,” she said.
“The best part of your life is when your family becomes your friends and your friends become your family.”
