Denver, Colorado (CaymanMama.com) — Book retailer Borders Inc. is trying to get in on the electronic book movement by going into a partnership with Canadian digital book seller Kobo Inc.

Borders will soon sell e-books on their website by creating an e-reader application with Kobo, an e-book service, which will be made available on most cellular devices and PCs. The new service will roll out in the second quarter of 2010, Borders said Tuesday.

Although the financial terms of the deal has not been disclosed, it was announced that sales through the Borders-branded store will be taken in by Borders.

The e-book industry is mainly headed by Amazon.com’s Kindle until Borders’ main competition, Barnes & Noble Inc., began sales of its own e-reader, the Nook.

“It looks like Borders is starting somewhere with their e-book strategy, although as usual they’re a little behind Barnes & Noble,” said Michael Norris, a senior analyst in the trade books group of Simba Information. “They’re smart enough to know future of e-books doesn’t lie with any one device.”

Kobo currently holds a catalog of 2 million e-books.
