Houston, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — In an effort to move out what is left of the remaining Saturn and Pontiac vehicle inventory, General Motors Co. is now rolling out super-low discounts on the soon-to-be-extinct brands, as per a published report.

The auto giant will pay out $7,000 to dealers for the sale of every new Saturn or Pontiac left on their lot if the vehicle is moved to dealer-operated rental or service fleets, The Wall Street Journal reported.

This arrangement will allow car dealers to sell the vehicles at a discount. The only stipulation is the the vehicles have to be labeled as used since technically, the dealer would be the first owner of the car or truck.

The deep discounts expire Jan. 4.

“That was the purpose of the programs — to help dealers reduce those inventories,” said GM spokesman Tom Henderson.

According to the Associated Press, “The decision to discount Saturns and Pontiacs comes as GM closes down both brands under the Detroit automaker’s restructuring plan. The shutdown of Pontiac was announced earlier in the year.”
