January 28, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ Facing a downward trend in pricing for e-books, publishers may have found a new friend in Apple and its new iPad device.
According to the New York Times, five of the world’s largest publishers - including Penguin and Simon & Schuster - have signed on to provide e-book content for iPad. But unlike most books sold on Amazon’s kindle, Apple is giving publishers more leeway in pricing their books.
Apple and the publishers have agreed to a formula that ties the maximum e-book price with the physical book price, and publishers will be able to charge $3 to $5 more per title than they can charge on Kindle, which established its common price at $9.99.
