Montreal, Quebec, Canada (CaymanMama.com) — An Arizona judge sentenced rapper DMX to six months in jail Tuesday for violating the terms of his probation, but many feel that the troubled rapper could benefit greatly from drug rehab instead of jail time.
A popular online celebrity tabloid reports that that the during the hearing, ‘Celebrity Rehab’ chief physician Dr. Drew Pinsky handed the judge a letter requesting that DMX, born Earl Simmons, be admitted to the Pasadena Rehab facility for treatment for his addiction to cocaine.
Apparently, the judge was receptive to the recommendation but it has not been disclosed whether the judge approved it or not. DMX, 39, has admitted to violating his probation five times, stemming from his use of illegal drugs, since his release from jail in 2009.
DMX’s lawyer, Gary Jenkins hopes that Pinsky can help his client get clean and live a better, sober life. “He’s been battling addiction for some time and he’s in need of treatment.”
According to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio: “He admitted to using cocaine, so he’s back in our jail. I think it’s about time to give him hard time. We do have a great drug prevention program in the jail, so if he stays in our jail system I will consider (letting) him go through our program.”
Last May, DMX was released from an Arizona jail after serving 90-days for drug and animal cruelty, and fraud charges. He has since attempted to rehabilitate his failed career and was said to be preparing for the release of a gospel album.
