Detroit MI Collision: Police Car, Beer Delivery Truck Collide—2 Deputies Injured

Detroit, MI—Two officers from the Detroit Police Department (DPD) suffered serious injuries after the unmarked cop car they were occupying was rear-ended a beer delivery truck. The injurious motor vehicle collision (MVC) occurred on Plymouth Road and Westwood Street Thursday, June 24, 2010, according to information provided by Click on Detroit.

Two unidentified police deputies were responding to a call regarding an armed robbery on the Detroit/Redford border when the wreck occurred. Reports indicated the unmarked police car smashed into the back of a Labatt Blue Light delivery truck Thursday afternoon.

“I seen a whole bunch of police start coming, and they tried to help pull ‘em out the car and try and pull the man out… They were hurt real bad. The woman they said she had a broken hip,” said Terry Winston, who heard the accident from a nearby barber shop.

Both officers, a male and female, suffered hip fractures in the car-truck collision. One of the deputies also suffered additional broken bones. Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel subsequently rushed the officers to area hospitals for treatment.

Police are expected to conduct a full probe into the police vehicle vs. beer delivery truck crash.
