In last week’s New York Times article “The Google Algorithm”, it was suggested that government be given permission to look into Google’s search engine algorithms to ensure the editorial policy and tweaks were not benefiting Google’s other businesses. Disclosure of search engine algorithms would lead to spammers manipulating the system. The suggestion for a standardized algorithm between all search engines has the ability to leave companies unmotivated to innovate new ways of navigating the web.
