Telford, PA, USA, 02/19/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

reSAWN TIMBER co. is pleased to introduce 4 new CHARRED FLOORING designs to their already extensive shou sugi ban offering. reSAWN has definately combined the ancient Japanese technique of burning wood with historic European wood finishes to create new & modern wood flooring. Since introducing their CHARRED collection for exterior siding & interior wall cladding, architects and interior designers have been clamoring for CHARRED flooring. These 4 new designs are made using domestic character grade white oak in a generous 6″ wide face. The wide plank flooring accentuates the natural character and grain pattern of the wood. From a sustainability perspective, this flooring is 100% made in the USA and finished with non-toxic, 0-VOC hardwax oil.

Additionally, reSAWN is able to provide these floors as FSC® certified upon request. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) sets standards for responsible forest management. A voluntary program, FSC uses the power of the marketplace to protect forests for future generations. FSC® certified wood products can contribute to LEED certification.

reSAWN has several other collections featuring wide plank, white oak flooring in a variety of modern finishes. The CHARRED FLOORING is unique in the way the shou sugi ban process burns the wood and reacts with the different hardwax oil finishes. Translated as “the burning of Japanese cypress (sugi)” or yakisugi, and traditionally used in Japan as exterior siding, shou sugi ban is an ancient technique and is gaining new life as a unique and modern wood finish.

The process begins with raw white oak lumber which is graded and milled into tongue & groove flooring. The wood is then carefully charred, misted with water, cooled, and brushed to remove dust and loose debris. Finally, a top coat of hardwax oil is applied which both seals and protects the wood and adds color to the design.

Historically used throughout Europe and by early American settlers, to preserve and enhance the beauty of natural wood surfaces, hardwax oil finishes are being rediscovered for their many unique benefits from the beauty they preserve to their ease of maintenance. reSAWN’s hardwax oil is a modern take on this traditional finish and has been improved with technology to connect the oil to the wood fibers by means of a molecular reaction, resulting in more durable protection. reSAWN’s hardwax oil is all natural, non-pollutant and completely non-toxic. It does NOT contain biocides, preservatives, lead-benzene and is 100% VOC-free (Volatile Organic Compounds). reSAWN’s hardwax oil finish is produced from natural materials such as vegetable oil and natural waxes made from purified, renewable, natural, raw materials.
