Amid security concerns Iran closes its borders with Pakistan

Quetta (Dawn.com): The Iranian authorities, after the suicide attack at a mosque in Zahedan have ordered complete closure of border. The decision of closing its border along side Pakistan was made yesterday and the Pakistani authorities were notified about this decision. The closure of the border route has brought the cross border trade to a stand still.

New steel plant inadvertently did not seek clearance from Environmental Agency of Pakistan

Karachi (Dawn.com): The Gulf based company which undertook the building and commissioning of a new steel plant on a 220 acre government leased plot has missed the regulation laid down for construction of the said steel plant. According to the Gulf company, the steel plant construction is on schedule and will be operational by 2010. The owners and managers have how ever missed to address the environmental concerns. The law of Pakistan which is once again breached by the money lords who believe that human life of Pakistani people is worth nothing.

The plant will be able to produce 1.28 million tons of direct reduced iron.

The law states that construction of any such project need clearance for Environmental protection Agency before start of construction work, while no such clearance was obtained by the owners and managers.

From Swat to Kalam - Military operation against militants enter new phase

Islamabad (Dawn.com): The Pakistan security forces turned their attention towards Kalam where the militants have started to increase the presence. According to the official statement, a few dozen Taliban militants who are in Kalam have been joined with other Taliban from Bahrain and other adjoining areas.

The Pakistan Military is now set to focus their operation towards Kalam to assure that these militant are taken over or killed.

Rs.500 million more announced for IDPs

Islamabad (Dawn.com): The Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, yesterday, ordered the concerned department to release Rs.500 million more for the internally displaced people. The government statement in this regards said, ‘President Zardari issued the order in view of the complaints lodged by parliamentarians from Malakand regarding problems of IDPs and after meeting a team of Pakistan American Congress on the issue of relief and rehabilitation of the people living in camps on Saturday.’

Tarin says, New taxes will not be imposed in forthcoming budget

Lahore (Dawn.com): Speaking at a pre budget seminar, the adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance, Shaukat Tarin said that the no new taxes will be levied on real estate, agriculture and services. He said that taxation will be rationalized and its base will be broadened. He also said that, ‘Tax-to-GDP ratio will be increased from nine per cent to 15 to 20 per cent.’
