President Zardari for boosting trade and strategic partnership with EU

Brussels (Dawn.com): On arrival in Brussels President Asif Ali Zardari asked to EU during its first ever summit with Pakistan asked the EU to support Pakistan during the tough time when his country is fighting the extremists. His dialog with the European commission covered aid, trade, security measures, promotion of democracy in Pakistan

General Petraeus says - No direct combat assistance being given to Pakistan

Tempa (Dawn.com): General David Petraeus denied giving Pakistan any direct combat assistance in Pakistan’s fight against the militant. While listing the financial and material aid given to Pakistan by the US he said, ‘We are not the source of it, this is a Pakistani operation.’ About the battle Pakistani army is fighting, he added, ‘is their fight against extremism that they assess poses a threat against their very existence. It’s not them fighting our global war on terror.’

US has, as listed by the General, provided Pakistan with 100,000 rounds of ammunition and four MI-17 cargo helicopters had been delivered, while more than $400 million in US aid was sent to help the millions of refugees displaced by fighting in the Swat valley. Some $447 million in direct US military assistance has also been pledged to Islamabad.

Karachi stocks stage a strong comeback

Karachi (Business Recorder): The stock, yesterday, gained a massive 202.97 points. The trading session saw healthy buying by investors on the expectation that the government would cut tax on exports and also out cut t-bills yield. The stock on these expectation surged by 202.97 points bring the KSE-100 index to 7,075.93 points.
