Louisville, KY—A woman who claims a dog bit her while on a Skywest Airlines flight nearly a year ago filed a lawsuit in Jefferson County Circuit Court. The personal injury suit, which names Louisville International Airport, the Louisville Regional Airport Authority, Atlantic Southeast, Delta and Skywest airlines as defendants, seeks compensatory and punitive damages for the alleged dog attack, according a October 28, 2010 Fox 41 report.

According to information provided, Shea Johnson was on a Skywest Airlines flight when a German shepherd dog, who was situated on the floor of the cabin in front of its owner, attacked her for unknown reasons.

While the suit alleges Johnson was not “teasing, tormenting or abusing the German shepherd,” it went on to bite her in the face nonetheless. Johnson apparently had to undergo medical treatment for “permanent injuries and impairments” sustained in the incident.

The lawsuit contended, “The German shepherd was improperly allowed to board the flight… The German shepherd was not a service animal for mobility, hearing or visual disability. The German shepherd was not in an animal carrier and was not stowed under the seat.”

The personal injury suit further alleges the defendants failed to provide a secure atmosphere for Johnson.

Reports did not specify the extent of damages sought. The case continues.
